Spring is in the air!

So thankful for this break. It feels like SPRING!!!   I hope that the children are enjoying spending time with their families.  I have had a wonderful time with two of my daughters in Greenville.  Looking forward to seeing my K4 class again and jumping back on the “reading railroad”.    On Wednesday, you will hear Mrs. Stapp saying “All aboard!” Love you my K4 class!

2011 Preschool Christmas Program

As we finish out the 2011 year, we want to stop and give praise to Jesus for all that He has done for us.  This Friday, at 9am, in the church auditorium, the Victory Baptist School Preschoolers will present their Christmas program.  We hope that you will listen carefully to the words of the program.  We are celebrating the greatest gift of all, the Lord Jesus, the Son of God!

It is wonderful to “see” Christmas through the eyes of a child.  I am thankful for each child in my class and pray that you will have a blessed Christmas season.

I look forward to seeing you again in 2012!

Merry Christmas!

“ME”itis

One way to combat  “ME” itis at Christmas  is to look for special deeds you can do for others. It really is the everyday kindnesses that add up.

Encourage your children by cutting strips of  red / green paper.  Each time your child does a good deed (such as holding the door for someone, cleaning up their own dishes, picking up their dirty clothes, sharing a toy with a friend or sibling) write the deed on the strip of paper and make a paper chain for your Christmas tree!  Hopefully, by the time Christmas is over you will have a chain that wraps around the whole tree.

If your tree is too fancy for a paper chain, allow your child to “wrap” their room  in the chain.

Just an idea!

Mrs. Stapp’s 4K and Shenandoah Ministries

Our four year old class is collecting food items for Shenandoah Ministries.  Starting Monday, there will be a gift box in my classroom. Your child may bring in their items over the next two weeks.

One thing that I did with my children was allowed them to “work” for the money. Folding clothes, washing dishes, setting the table together not only allows them to earn money but also causes you to bond as a family.  It gives that extra time to talk about their day and helps them to open up in a more casual setting about their friends and activities.

We would go together to the grocery store to buy the item.  You are teaching work ethics and facts about money.  A trip to the grocery store is always fun!  Build up enthusiasm about working to help others who are not as fortunate as we are.

Below are some ideas of the type of items we would like to include:

Canned goods – beans, corn

Boxed goods – pasta, macaroni, cereal

Paper Items – paper towels, toilet paper

Toiletries – toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo

Snacks – pudding cups, snack mixes, granola bars

I hope that you are as excited about this opportunity as I am.  I have participated with my children in these type ministries over the years. It brings joy to my heart  (and a couple of tears) to look back and remember my daughter’s smiling faces as they earned their money for gifts!

Thanks for all you do!

Feliz Navidad

I am so excited as our 1st and 2nd graders learn Christmas words in Spanish.  We are learning Juan 3:16 which tells us “Porque de tal manera amo’ Dios al mundo” or “For God so loved the world”.  Christmas is about the best gift of all – JESUS!

Some of the words we learned this week are as follows:

la Navidad – Christmas

el pesebre – manger

los pastores – shepherds

los angeles – angels

Cristo – Christ

los Reyes Magos – the Wise Men

los regalos – presents

la estrella – star

adorar – to adore, to worship

I hope  the children are sharing some of their Spanish words with you each week.  Oh, by the way, I promised the children extra credit if they bring in a letter or prayer card from your church about a missionary to Peru!

Adios and Feliz Navidad!!!

Memories

Some of my fondest memories involve being in the kitchen with my mother-in-law and children as they cooked. The girls loved to visit “Antmama” and create/bake Tom Turkeys, Christmas cookies, and Octopus spaghetti. Here is an example of one of our favorites:

TOM TURKEY COOKIES
12oz pkg semisweet chocolate chips
11oz pkg candy corn
52 fudge striped cookies
1/4 cup butter, cubed
4 cups miniature marshmallows
6 cups crisp rice cereal
52 white confetti sprinkles
Melt chocolate chips in microwave. Stir until smooth. For tails, use dab of chocolate to attach 5 candy corns in a fan shape to the chocolate side of half of the cookies. Refrigerate until set. In a large saucepan, melt butter. Add marshmallows, stir over low heat until melted. Add cereal. Cool 10 minutes. With buttered hands, form into 1 1/2 inch balls. Remelt chocolate if necessary. Using chocolate, attach balls to chocolate side of remaining cookies. Position tales perpendicular to the base cookies, attach with chocolate. Refrigerate until set.
For feet, cut off white tips from candy corn.Discard (eat) white tips.Attach remaining candy corn with chocolate to to base of cookie. Attach one whole candy corn to cereal ball for head. With a toothpick dipped in chocolate, attach 2 confetti sprinkles as eyes. Dot each sprinkle with chocolate for pupils.Let stand until set. Store in airtight container! Yum!!!
