To kick off selling our Warrior Cards, for our spring fundraiser, Victory has spirit week! On Monday, we all dressed up to represent our favorite sports teams. In second grade, we had Braves, Falcons, Wildcats, Bulldogs, Yellow Jackets, and of course Victory Baptist School fans! Tuesday was wacky tacky day. Boy did we look like a silly bunch that day! The students had a lot of fun looking so silly. Glitter and Camouflage day was Wednesday! (I could hardly see most of the students; they blended in so well.) Thursday we dressed up from our favorite time period. We had 50’s, 70’s, 80’s and even some 2012’s. Friday was the craziest day of all, crazy hair and hat day! The students all did so well participating this week! We had a lot of fun and even were able to get some things covered in class amongst all the silliness. Now we have a lot of hard work to do as we sell those Warrior Cards! Happy Selling!
It’s a Brand New Year!
The second grade class is ready to begin a wonderful new year! We are excited about continuing to follow our class verse and be a light to the world (Matthew 5:16). Along with our verse, we have been talking about ways we can serve God in 2012. We took pictures of ourselves reminding us of ways that we can serve God. We hung these pictures on our bulletin board to serve as examples for us during the month of January.
Christmas Gift
The 2nd grade class is collecting gifts for a missionary family from Victory Baptist Church. The students are excited to be able to give to other children their age. As a class, we have discussed the importance of giving to others. It is neat to see their excitement as they bring in their gift to put in the basket. As they bring in their gifts, I am reminded about the gift that God graciously gave to us, His Son, Jesus Christ. Even though the students enjoy bringing in the gift for the missionary family and for a gift exchange in the classroom, may they never forget the best Christmas gift ever, Jesus.
Christmas Time!
Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year. The main reason is that I get to talk to my students about God’s gift to us, His Son Jesus, who came to earth as a baby. I love retelling the Christmas story and having class discussions about why Jesus came. This always brings a smile to my face. Each year since I started teaching 2nd grade, I have had my students color and cut out parts of the manger scene and then we put it altogether on one of the bulletin boards in the classroom. It is a daily reminder to us of the gift that God gave us when He sent His son to earth to die for our sins. Here is a picture of the scene that this year’s class created.
Sign Language Center!
Brand new to 2nd grade learning center time is the sign language center! Knowing simple signs will allow students to interact with deaf children. They have begun to learn the letters in the alphabet and have been practicing spelling simple words or words on their spelling lists. My goal is that this will be a base on which students will be able to build their sign language skills. I have already noticed students using letter signs in the class. The other day, one of the girls in our class used the sign for the letter “c” to say that she needed the letter “c” repeated on an oral quiz. They are catching on so quickly! I am excited to see how much they will know by the end of the year!
